Internal Curing and Reductions in Settlement and Plastic Shrinkage Cracking

For projects in the field that incorporate internal curing, contractors have noted a reduction in plastic shrinkage cracking.

X-ray microtomography results have indicated that when exposed to drying, the LWA first supplies water to the cement paste (which remains saturated). After the water supply from the LWA is exhausted, the cement paste dries out as well.
