Limitations of 2-D to 3-D image generation methods

There are advantages and drawbacks to generating 3-D porous microstructures from 2-D images. If the geometrical characteristics of a porous material are well captured by S2, then the generated image can be used to compute other properties as well. If the geometrical information in S3, S4, etc. or the connectivity of the pore space is important for the computed properties, then there is no substitute for the real 3-D image [75].
