The author would like to thank Drs. Pierre Kalifa, Daniel Quenard, and Pierre
Pimienta of Centre Scientifique et Technique du Batiment, France, for
interesting discussions that stimulated this research, particularly Dr. Kalifa
for the suggestion that the melting fibers could be locally absorbed by the
surrounding cement matrix. He would also like to thank Dr. Long Phan
of the Structures division of BFRL at NIST for supplying the samples
for the TGA analysis of the concretes, Mr. Robert Lutz and Mr. David
Savage of the Asphalt Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL-NIST) for
assistance with the viscosity measurements, and Dr. Clarissa Ferraris
and Mr. John Winpigler (BFRL) for assistance in preparing the mortar
specimens containing fibers.
